Street Pole Dance!

As a pole dancing student, it is very difficult for me to resist the dark force to strike some pole poses on these street “poles” :p

These “poles” are indeed directional signs, which are part of the “Visitor Signage Improvement Scheme” implemented by the Hong Kong Tourism Commission.

There are mainly 3 types: Directional Sign, Mapboard and Idenification Sign. These visitor signage aimed to provide convenience for visitors while travelling around Hong Kong.

These photos are listed according to the dates they were taken:

Went to the Play Club in Lan Kwai Fong yesterday, it has a pole right in the middle of the dance floor, making it alot more “suitable” for pole dancing, however, the diameter of its pole is 38mm, i.e. super small pole(and not very stable too). It is made of titanium so it’s a bit slippery, but spinning on it is fun! *You’ve got alot more spins*.

So there are a number of clubs in HK with pole(s) installed now:

HK Island:

  • The Priory (75-77 Wyndham Street, Hong Kong, phone: 2522 2628) – It has the longest pole so far. Our favourite place for pole parties. Pole is of 55mm diameter.
  • Soda (G/F, 5 Minden Avenue, Phone: 27390338) – Very short pole indeed, heard it’s closed down.
  • M1NT (108 Hollywood Road, Hong Kong) – It has podium pole, i.e. not permenantly fixed one
  • Evisu Bar (2/F, 43 Lyndhurst Terrace) – the pole is situated on a slightly elevated platform, however it is very close to the DJ booth, there’s only about 2 feet distance in between them.
  • Homebase (LG/F, 17-19 Hollywood Road) – The pole is on a small stage of calf height, not very suitable for proper pole dancing. The place is nice though, it’s closed down now.
  • Zinc Bar – (35 D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong) – The 45mm pole is installed on a very high stage, making it very dangerous to dance to (provided the “stage” is only of 1-1.5 feet diameter)
  • Laguna – It is situated in Wan Chai, been there once, and will never go there again. It has 2 pole though.
  • The Play Club (California Tower, 32 D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong) – It has a 38mm stainless steel pole installed right in the middle of the dance floor. Nice environment but with confusion signs (or no signs at all: toilet signs missing, exit signs missing… even the indications for male or female toilet are missing)…. oh, confusion music too! It plays dance, then to pop, then to grunge, latino music … all mixed together in a weird way.

Tsim Sha Tsui:

  • M1 – (80 Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui) – two poles installed on a stage, very Las Vagas style. It has regular pole dance performance every Friday and Saturday. Nice music.
  • Club ZaZa (3/F, Toy House, 100 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui) – Never been there so can’t give any comment on this place :p

…the capillaries burst after doing 10x Straight Edge today!

Googled a bit on how to get rid of it (cos the dots will turn brown after a few days and these “bruise” would last for like a week, really scary looking!):

- something called “capillary clear solution”, not sure about what that is…
- some say putting on peanut butter works, i will give this a try (why not anyway, it can only make my face smelling nice if it doesn’t work, lol)

I have also uploaded a video of those straight edge…. sorry about my body fat, have just submitted my thesis 2 days ago and had been sitting quite alot recently, and hence the FAT BELLY!

Purple Midi platform

Bought a new pair (random brand) today… I’d been looking for a pair of nice purple platform shoes (either slingback or with straps) for ages and somehow I found a pair today!

3/4″ platform with 3 & 1/2″ heels, which I think is reasonable for pole dancing, and look at the platform and heels, both coated with silverish coating! Hee

  9. D.H. that would be “bang” or “aiii-ya” rather than a simple “blup”
    sorry, taking BS here

Can we call the “R-pole” a truely portable pole? Can we?

Cos, despite of the fact that most of the poles are “portable” these days, like the X-pole, the Lil’ Minx or even the Podium pole, which claim them as “portable”, in which they are, it’s just they suffer from a number of limitations:

  • X-pole – it is VERY heavy, especially the top. I don’t know how much it weight, at least for mine, once i’ve got it set up I simply don’t want to remove it, cos it is tooo heavy and it takes two person to have it set up (at least in my case). But it is strong and stable… Mine has been set up for over a year and could withstand numerous parties + 8 girls on the pole…
  • Lil’ Minx – it is expensive… i’ve heard its price has droppped down alot. It is VERY EASY to set up, really, the spring mechanism it used made this pole really really easy to set up. But what i’m worried about is the spring, you know springs get metal fatigue alot easier than other else.
  • Podium pole – it is portable, and it has a stage. However, not everyone likes the stage (I’m not a fan of it) and it’s still quite bulky to have it carried around! Cos once it’s paacked, it size is more or less like a suit case… but then again, it is expensive.

How about this new “R-pole” then? It seems pretty strong to use, cos it can withstand Felix and Pantara – two of the most powerful pole dancers in the world and it must be strong! Hee hee. I’m not sure about its portability… and it comes with mats too… is it good or bad? the good side is, you don’t need to take a separate mat with you! but the bad thing is – can you wear high heels?

Here’s the link to the R-pole: http://www.r-polefitness.com/r-poles.html and a video on youtube for you to watch (it cannot be embedded).

shoulder mount at the Expo

Went to the Asia World Expo Hong Kong for a car show and saw a nice little street lamp… couldn’t resist on doing some pole move there! Sorry that I showed my little belly there :p

You know, since it’s a car show, there are loads of weird guys over there, I had to wait for quite a while until nobody was there to see my stupid action! Anyway, it was fun :-D

Performed at Bullsdog on this year’s Lan Kwai Fong Carnival on 25th October… there were only 3 girls dancing in the 5-7pm session and so all of us were very exhausted >.<

Ayway, managed to take a few pics that I like :)

You know, the pole can be quite handy when it comes to Halloween, why? See the pic below!

P1010927
It serves as something to hold the giant spider web in place, expecialy when your pole (in my case, my little C-3PO) is installed right in the middle of your living room :p

I love my little X-pole :) Although it’s quite difficult to install & remove (cos the height of my ceiling is somewhat in between using 2 different extensions…)
